Titus wednesday by sabresun

Titus wednesday

Frankly, I don't know what who this figure is. All I can see from the jug are the words 'Titus' and 'Wednesday' The only Titus' I know are the Roman emperor and Titus Andronicus, of the Shakespeare play, none of which seem to fit. I can't remember looking at the side of the jug when I took the shot (and now I definitely wish I had!) It was the colourful figure that caught my eye. To me, it looks like some sort of mischievous folklore character with 80's shoulder pads. The feet are particularly strange being possibly some sort of stylized hoof. Overall, it's a bit of a mystery.

Giving this some further thought, I think this may be a clown or a Shakepearean fool. There is a clown in the play Titus Andronicus, so this could well fit its identity (it's only a guess though)

From Wikipedia -

Shakespearean fools are usually clever peasants or commoners that use their wits to outdo people of higher social standing. In this sense, they are very similar to the real fools, clowns, and jesters of the time, but their characteristics are greatly heightened for theatrical effect.
I'm going to go with your take on this...definitely Shakespearean. I hope this doesn't drive you too nutty...not knowing. Maybe you can go back and check it out. Sometimes I'm still bothered about that "one shot" I didn't take when I was new to this site. It was of a drainage ditch that was being cleaned out by heavy duty equipment, and about 10 feet away from the machine were about 15 birds waiting to go into the water, as if saying, "hurry up, will ya?" I'm still mad at myself for not taking that shot, and no excuses...I had my P&S with me.

Great image, and I think you need to research this character so we will all know who he is. .

@aj1268 Yeah, but a similar shot will come along some day and you'll doubly sure not to miss it that time. Just keep your iphone handy. :)

@digitalrn Well, I've hit a brickwall with it to be honest, Rick. I can't seem to find much about it on the net. I have a feeling it's a joker or a character for banishing evil spirits like the Morris dancers or something along those lines. They still dress up a little like this around here when they do a stag dance in a local village, Abbots Bromley (goes back hundreds of years) in which they wear stags antlers. Neither are probably related to this, but it puts me in mind of them.
