Oh Well

Darker reflections on a guitar, and on life.

To be honest, I'm feeling a bit melancholy tonight as I've had a persistent headache for the past two days and it's grinding me down. It just won't subside. Much like a dripping tap torture that you can't reach within a waking dream it remains lingering on in the background. Anyhow, in mentioning the blues, Peter Green often comes into my mind. Peter being one of the early British blues guitar greats who reached his peak and hit a curved ball way too soon. Drugs pretty much destroyed his amazing talent and his career. With the help of friends he still plays today, but it's in more of a supportive atmosphere of that he's playing at all rather than the legend he should have been. There's this story that after being burned out, but before they realised how damaged he was, someone came to see him and he was sitting at the kitchen table with a piece of cheese firmly lodged in his curly hair. Apparently it had been there awhile (as in weeks) and was symptomatic of his state of mind at the time. So sad in one so gifted with so much promise. I often look at my guitars and wistfully wish I could wring out such notes and make them sing as they should. Alas, it may never happen. I don't have the effortless gift. I have to work really hard at musical instruments before I get anywhere near that kind of tone out of them. I think every boy at some time in his life wishes he were a guitar great (and probably a fair few girls) and it's a hard dream to let go and fade away, or crumble like a piece of cheese.

Another thoughtful post--I'm sure you have other effortless talents that somebody else wishes they had. Everyone does. Beautiful guitar (I am clueless on how to play any instrument, wish I wasn't) and I do hope your headache went away. Stress? Maybe you need a good soak in a hot tub or some such thingy.

I hope your headache has eased. It is pretty impressive that you can muse along on these thought patterns having such a painful drip drip drip in your head. Rock on Matt, even if it's not to that level, it is still fun to do!

@aj1268 I just refused to let it take over and collecting my thoughts helped with that.
