Storm by salza

Storm

Such a patient and compliant chap. Despite having shed his winter coat, he still had a very thick coat and is already suffering in the mild summer temperatures so it was decided that he needed to be shaved. It took me about two hours and he just stood there. In fact at one point it appeared as though he was asleep! Since he's a grey the before and after shots looked almost the same!

beautiful photo - is that you reflected in the "apple of his eye"?

@eniaral Not sure if it's me or if it's his owner.

Aw, what a beautiful and patient boy. Love your crop.
I'm sure he's much more comfortable without his coat. Is sunburn a concern when they get shaved?

@pasadenarose It can be, depends on the actual skin colour of the animal. For storm it is not really a problem as his skin is quite dark despite the hair being white.

Lovely capture. You can see the trust in his eye. Bet it felt really good to be rid of the thick hair in the heat. Probably was also like getting a massage that can relax anybeing to almost sleep.

Beautiful shot, clipping is a big job. Is he older?
November 10th, 2012
@tigerdreamer Karen, as far as I know he's about 15 or so, so yes he is older!

Unless this is his normal pattern, you may need to have a vet check for cushings, thick coat that doesnt shed well is one of the symptoms. My horse lasted 15 years after he was diagnosed so it isn't desperate, but it does need managing, just part of living with an older horse.

@tigerdreamer This is normal for him and he has been checked out by a vet just to make sure. Thanks for your concern though!
