Karoo Snow by salza

Karoo Snow

On arrival in Beaufort West, Central Karoo we saw snow on the mountains. I have never been so cold as I was that night. There was also a very strong wind and a fair amount of rain. The houses in South Africa are built more to keep the summer heat out than keep the warmth in during winter months!

@pamknowler The temperature was 4 degrees Celsius when I took this shot but the wind chill must have been well below zero and the wind was nearing gale force!

@steeler It certainly was a rude awakening. We had similar scenes the whole way home.

this is a beautiful picture. Ancient humans gravitated to plains and long vistas. There is something visceral about it.

What beautiful scenery, it does look a bit cold though.

A gorgeous composition - I love the deep cold blue of the mountains and the strong lines of the forground and vegetation rising gradually to meet the mountains - The depth of the sky emphasises the size and strength of the vista.

I really don't think of Africa as being cold-- so it sounds funny as if a contradiction of terms- African winter. But this shot certainly conveys a cold feeling. Time to get out some long-johns!
