Godwin by salza

Godwin

My get pushed challenge from Milla @mizzm - 'here is my challenge to you... To take a portrait that tells a story about that person. have fun :)'
I really do not like doing people photos of any kind. Godwin and Richie are the two grooms where I go horse riding. Godwin just loves the horses and is very protective towards them.

@mizzm I hope this answers your challenge!

@joemuli Lol, he was actually watching some others who rode with us today taking photos of one of the other horses! As I said he is very protective over the horses! :-)

Successful image for your get pushed challenge. Well done.
Okay, I'm your get pushed challenger this week. I would like you to try an ICM (intentional camera movement) image. Here are some samples to give you some ideas: http://365project.org/tags/icm Have fun!

Super, meets the challenge perfectly. Love the eyes on the man and the horse, and that they both appear to be looking at the same thing.

haha!!! Great capture!

Beautiful capture. Love the beautiful horses and Godwin's intensive expression.

Very deep DOF for an f5 setting. What is your widest aperture setting on this new lens, Sally?
May 25th, 2014
@blueberry1222 very cool challenge, thanks. It's been a while since I've done any ICM.

Wonderful tones in this and love the color and detail! Fav!

@ericdibosco widest aperture is 3.5. Not sure if I've even tried lower than 4.5 yet!

Lovely shot, gorgeous colours

Fabulous capture, Sally. I love the way both Godwin and the horse are looking in the same direction. Fabulous story line for your challenge. And totally love the clarity and overall focus. If I could fav a hundred times over, I would!

This definitely works for the challenge and catches my attention. I want to know about that man and what he does. Great job.

This is a really nice portrait. He is very much in his element and the one horse with the turned head also adds a nice contrast to his solid stare.

@adambralston Godwin looks after the horses, helps feeding them, grooming them and does some outrides with us. He has a very soft hand and is so gentle and calm with the horses. He is an absolute gem!

Just such a rich photo. The range of color in this photo is so deep. He looks so serious in this photo, Godwin. I think it is the same man in the alternate photo, carrying a saddle? There he is laughing. At any rate Sally, this photo reminds me of a National Geographic photo. I'm not entirely sure why, but it does. For me, that would be my dream to be that good.
June 11th, 2014
@adambralston Thanks Adam! The other picture is not the same person. Godwin is not normally so serious. This was a chance capture, I turned around did a quick refocus and shot. The weather was horrid, raining and cold! I'm honoured that it reminds you of a National Geographic pic, a level one can only wish to reach!

@salza My mistake. I didn't look closely at the photos. Clearly a different person. But, this one here, this is a good one. Very rich.
