We were very lucky to have this guy so close. He was right outside the chalet we were staying in. At one point he was eating grass right next to the fence (which was about 4 meters from our door).
The Rhino is being poached for it's horn and they are now an endangered species.
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.
Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
@lynnilou it really is such a sad state of affairs. We saw so many during our trip that you almost want to disbelieve the stats. Thankfully there are a lot of posters, pamphlets and information boards all around the park highlighting the plight of the Rhino.
@ericdibosco it was at Bergendal. A tad worrying as the perimeter fence was badly damaged during the floods in March. There are areas where the fence is barely standing and of course the electric fence is not functional! I have some closer shots but the fence is rather prominent in them.
We saw all of our rhino's in that area as well...between B&D and Pretoriuskop. Yes, it is great ot still be able to see them. And I was particularly glad that I could still show them to my kids.
