My get pushed challenge from Marci @melston - My challenge to you is to photograph something you are afraid of, in a way that shows why you are afraid.
I am not very comfortable doing any form of people photos nor street photography.
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.
Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
@melston thanks March. Sorry I forgot to tag you! I do know this lady rather well so not too difficult getting her picture! I'm not sure if I will ever be confident doing street photography. I think it's partly because I am not comfortable having my picture taken.
Sally, street photography is easier in the big city, you are lost and do not stand out. Try it at the waterfront, everyone has a camera so you will blend.
Great capture
@ninaganci I haven't been to the Waterfront for about 2 years. I don't often get into Cape Town and when I do I normally have so many things I need to get done that there is no time to go on a photo walk. One cannot justify a 120km (one way) journey just to take a few photos!
@melston Marci, sorry about the spelling mistake with your name. I had replied from my phone and it has a spell check that drives me demented, plus I don't always check whether it has auto-corrected me!
This is a lovely candid of this smiling lady! Perhaps you were in an area where other photographers might also be taking pictures. I find that helps with the confidence to take mine as well!
@Weezilou Louise, I live in a small farming village and although we do get tourists visiting wandering around taking photos you still stand out like a sore thumb! We have a monthly market which I can attend and take some candids, but I do know a lot of the people and don't feel comfortable taking their photos. We are a good hour and a half drive away from the city, so not always easy to justify a trip just to get a few pics!
@salza That's fascinating to know the details of your surroundings. It does make the situation more understandable. Our 5-6 months in Lunenburg place us in a small Nova Scotia fishing town, and in the early years there, a few people teased me that I looked like a tourist, taking pictures all the time. I stayed the course, and now they know me as "the photographer". Some still ask what I do with all my pictures... to them I just say I photo-journal my days and I love to include the people I meet. Still, it's easier with some than with others. I get it!
Great capture
