This flower has appeared in the garden. In 2011 a similar flower bloomed, nothing has bloomed in between, although the green strappy leaves have never died back. I have no idea what it is. Some people say it's an Amaryllis, others say it's a lily!
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.

Maybe a hybrid? As in the bees cross pollinated two flowers in your garden? It certainly has a curious history! And it's a stunning color as well. Nice shot.
Beautiful capture whichever it is. Back in our RAF days one of our neighbours called her daughter Amaryllis I often wonder how she coped with it when she grew up. I can't help feeling that she would have preferred Lily, ha ha.
Amaryllis are cultivars of Hippeastrums but are known by names such as belladonna lily - I have never known either to keep leaves though - it looks like one of my hippeastrums
@annied Annie this is exactly what my research has shown. When it last flowered in 2011, I emailed two different garden magazines. Both were adamant that it is an amaryllis and never responded when I questioned the leaves. The leaves grow just like clivias, which is what I thought the plant was until it flowered. I think I will send pictures again and see if anyone comes up with a bright idea.
Sorry I can't help you, not sure what it is.
