I really struggled with my challenge this week. Have had numerous failures so in the end I have merged three pictures to get this picture.
My get pushed challenge from Kali @kali66 - I admire the still life photos of this Russian lady, orlovaphotolife, on instagram, with shallow depth of field and lots of bokeh in the background, in the second frame of this link she shows how she achieves this look so I would like you to have a go at it :) https://www.instagram.com/p/CO2KNekH_Jm/
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.
Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
@kali66 I hope you will accept this as my response to your challenge. I really struggled with this challenge. Getting the flowers exposed blew out the bokeh, getting the bokeh turned the flowers into silhouettes. Final straw was when I knocked the vase over. I took some pics of the spilled flowers and then merged some of the bokeh pics with the flowers.
oh dear! well the result has a lot of charm, i would suggest using a reflector to bounce some light back onto your subject, you could make one with tinfoil and cardboard like this https://petapixel.com/2009/06/07/make-your-own-aluminum-foil-reflector/ i have one much smaller than this A4 size and it stil does the trick. or you could try fill flash on low power.
@kali66 thanks for the info. Not sure if a reflector would have been much assistance to me as I was struggling to get a decent light source behind the glass to create the bokeh. I did learn a lot whilst playing around with this challenge
