My push challenge from Kathy (@kathyo) - I note an absence of people....and one of your recent pictures mentioned you have an aversion to it. So this is my challenge to you.
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.
Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
@salza I like this one....wonderful expression! I use to hate portraits, but over time have been enjoying it more and more. Now you have tweaked me to try and get out and capture more candid moments. Wonderful job Sally :)
@kathyo Still not overly enthusiastic about portraiture, maybe it's slightly easier doing candids as you can hide behind the lens and the person may never get to see their picture!
@summerfield This was a sneak shot but I think he may have realised that I took a picture of him. He was with at least 4 other people. I have cropped this quite severely!
@salza - so what did you do, run away as quickly as you can? let me share with you my technique for sneak street shots. you pretend you're looking at something not directly at them, say up or right or left of your subject. after you've taken a shot, or two, or three, pretend you're checking your imaginary subject, look at your screen and shake your head. shoot again, if you can. then, press your shutter as fast as you can (you should have it set on multiple shots) with the camera aimed elsewhere, so that if anyone asks you if you took a picture of them, you say no you didn't, and show them (you don't have to, really) that you've actually taken crap, go back one or two frames and they would see there's no picture of them. then sound like you're offended. then ask if you can take their pic, if you aren't too frazzled and nervous yet. or not. :-D want to try again?
@summerfield I do pretend I'm taking a picture of something else! Having the 200mm lens helps quite a lot. I have definitely relaxed a lot when it comes to street shots. I'm braving the crowds more!
