Ice cream for Easter

I'm trying to teach myself to draw using graphite pencils. Shading is not as simple as it appears in the tutorials

Sally, this is great! I knooow what you say about shading. It's so complicated... I like your sketch. What I notice, ot sure if it is good or bad, it is just something I notice and it also makes me think every time I try shading in pencil: you use various line directions and shading ways: sometimes you use only parallel lines, soemtimes you cross hatch - as you did on the cone. Then sometimes you scribble - as you did on the ice cream. I can see that these different ways of shadings are creating different textures and shapes. It is a very dynamic sketch. I couldn't tell you if there is something right or wrong :D I am struggling there as well.
