Colchicum with ivy by sandlily

Colchicum with ivy

Whenever I walk by this yard in the fall and see these autumn blooms I am surprised. I looked it up and they are "colchicums (Colchicum autumnale). Also known as meadow saffron, these fragile, lavender flowers, narrow at the base and lacking stems, pop directly from the ground."

What a cool flower. I don't think I've ever seen one. (I've only been west in the spring/early summer).
