I've been on a psychodrama workshop on Grief and Endings all day, so no toy shot today! The workshop was at the Manchester Youth Hostel, which is near the canal-side Castlefield arena.
I took this photo during a short stroll in the lunchhour. The tower in the background is the Beetham Tower, which was built relatively recently, and which is by far the tallest building in Manchester!
I've never been up, but I understand there's a cocktail lounge right at the top!
Edit - have found some more info about the tower -
"Completed in 2006 at a cost of £150 million, the Beetham Tower in Manchester, is the highest building in Manchester, the tallest residential building in Europe and the 7th tallest building in England with over 525,000 square feet of space. The Beetham Tower is 168.87 metres high, has a total of 47 floors and is home to the Manchester Hilton Hotel, 219 luxury apartments and 16 penthouses." http://www.beethamtower.org/manchester/beetham-tower-manchester.html
@sarahhorsfall I don't think so. You considering it? I know two women in Bolton, and one other woman in Manchester who is on here, would be a very female dominated trip. ;)
sarah , manchester has changed a lot since I was a young student , I assume this is down by victoria station on the way to Granada studios / Salford...i think...very atmospheric contrasting old manc with new manc !!!
BTW : is it OK to refer to Manc as Manc ? It's a very footie related expression !!
@chewyteeth I know two women in Stockport so, yes, it might be female dominated if we did decide to do something!!
@phil_howcroft You studied here? I lived here in the '90s, then moved away and came back last year - and a lot has changed. I was quite shocked when I first saw this building. It's at the bottom of Deansgate. (btw, don't think Manc is just a footie expression, it's a general abbreviation for Mancunian)
@sarahhorsfall new apartment blocks , I think that's called progress Sarah !!! It's a good job you were not in Manc before Brit Pop because if you were around for that music scene then 'heaven knows you'd be miserable then' !!!!!!

@patticake @dulciknit @dmrams Thanks - it is a striking building, standing all alone like that
