Horse Patrol

Horse Patrol at the ready. They were downtown to help with large crowds in town for a celebration of sports.
I love these horses. They must be highly intelligent, and very placid to do this job. Love their fluorescent socks.

I love your use of the word 'help'. Nice capture of these wonderful horses.

Great capture

Great lighting on this. I didn't know that horses wore light bands. That's interesting. Have you ever done horse patrol?

Impressive shot- I like all the florescent light bands. The eyes look a little spooky. You can darken them if you want. But I like how they're all ready and lined up to go.

@mrssmith No, never done horse patrol.

@sarasdadandmom I can do that with my computer's photo program too. If you have one, check it out.

@girlie you are very good , I changed it to that instead of move the crowd, It sounded more friendly. LOL

very cool capture, Terry! interesting that they're all the same colour.

I LOOOOOOOVE the police guys on horses. I think they look so charming and strong. And oh God these lil yellow lights are just so cute!

Gotta love all the reflective gear on the horses!

Oh I love horse patrol! Such beautiful animals and so noble!
October 3rd, 2011
So, why aren't you in this picture?

Wonderful Mounties on the job- hope all went well :)

There is something so cool and romantic about a horse patrol! And the lights on their ankles are awesome. Those aren't docile horses. They are well trained ones. As for the editing, I like raw shots (SOOC) as much as the edited ones, but if you ever want an easy program picnik is the way to go. For my photos, I kind prefer a very slight edit of contrast and such, but I'm not much of a tinkerer. Truth is my business.

They look ready for action! I always find them really impressive, with their tall horses! I hope they weren't necessary...

Cool shot! The CMPD (Charlotte) had requested funding for a mounted patrol a couple of years ago, but apparently the money wasn't there at the time. Now with the Democratic Convention coming to town next September, I think it's back on the table...at least on a temporary basis for crowd control.

Everyone looks very stalwart and macho. Cool capture.

@peggysirk They work well but I don't think they are that great for the tax payers. They require a lot of work and the liability is high. But the public loves them.
October 4th, 2011
@geertje No ,, they are just there in case.
October 4th, 2011
@lauriehiggins Laurie, those are reflective bands picked up with the flash. I too like the raw shots but once in awhile you have to use shadows or lighting to help.
thanks

@nana Nancy , I had to take the picture, and they will not let me around their horses, I am always feeding them and they are not suppose to be feed when they are out like that, It was just a cheeseburger!!!
October 4th, 2011
@pwallis thanks Paula
October 4th, 2011
@sarasdadandmom - You wouldn't think a little tiny cheeseburger would even affect a body as big as a horse's. That's my logic when I eat a piece of chocolate. :)

I've never seen so many together. This is interesting. Do these guys have to be trained to ride? We haven police on horses, motorcycles, and bikes. What's next? Rollerblades or Segways?
October 4th, 2011
@lisjam1 Yes , they go through a training course on riding and caring for the horses. They work six hours a day and then they give them two hours out of the day to care for the horses.
October 4th, 2011
@nana I like your logic
October 4th, 2011
Very solid sturdy looking horses, love to see horses used in a crowd , takes a special horse though to do it.
October 5th, 2011
Very cool. Love horses and policemen (hey, I dated one for four years, so I can say that, right?!!) :)
October 6th, 2011
@hiddencreek Yes, you can, we have some nice guys in our job, and some not so nice, like any other job. He must have had bad eye sight or he would still be with you. LOL
October 6th, 2011
@lornavale Yes it does
October 6th, 2011
Such a good shot - we don't always see these horses in action.
October 9th, 2011
Lovely shot. The rider closest to the camera looks very young!
