My daughter took these photos this afternoon. She was on her way from Welkom to Bloemfontein. After we had the sand storm we did not have any electricity anymore! That was 1:30 this afternoon. No rain fell although I heard some lightning. I am working with a LED light at the moment.
Shared these photos because I do not think people know how dry it is here. We need and pray for rain.
It's one of the great things about this site that you see the different environments that people experience around the World. I doubt if I'll ever see a sandstorm, so thanks for sowing these.
I would think sandstorms could do a lot of damage! A form of water blasting - clean off some mouldy bits - oh you wouldn't have mouldy bits with all that drought! I did hear one part of Africa was going to have some rain!
Looks very frighten . Beautiful captures of the nature forces. We have rain plenty enough. Het land is sompig en nat.

I can't imagine being in a sand storm. You certainly wouldn't want to be out of your car or home - the grit would be terrible in your eyes. I feel for the animals that are outside when this happens. May rain fall on your part of the world and bring the green grass back.
@pyrrhula Every naberhood have a power sub station, I dint know what is going on there....Every time we have a wind storm we do not have electricity, About two weeks ago the same thing, We read on Face book they found two burned bodies at the sub station after it has blown. We suspect it was cable thieves because nothing was said about the incident. Ok back to normal there is electricity today! Enjoy your day. Lekker sonskyn met paar 'n wolkies hier.
Impressive and dramatic...I've never seen a sandstorm before! Will be praying that you get the rain that you need, and I hope that your electricity came back on quickly!
Oh my. Never seen anything like that before. I am so sorry for you, we have too much rain here, I wish I could send some your way. I hope and pray that you get rain fall very soon, take care.
