Googled it and found this wildflower, so prolific at the moment, is called Osteospermum

@bf2016 Thanks Barbie. I hope I identified them correctly. My search term was something idiotic like purple wildflowers west coast - and then I scrolled through all the images until I saw something that looked like what I was trying to find.

@beckyk365 Thanks Becky. I guess I'll probably have more photos of these flowers than I should .... but while they are flowering I will need to make the most of them if possible.
