My Setup For CottiaC

This is my simple setup for reflections at home. I have a black porcelain floor tile that I put on my dining room table, but I am thinking of replacing my floor tile with an old picture - take the picture out and replace it with plain black behind the glass. That should work just as well, and be a lot lighter to pack away than the floor tile is. You will see my torch is angled at about 45 degrees and I have a very old cellphone as the the torch light from that gives nice natural colours. The background is a bed sheet folded up and draped over a piece of hardboard. All stuff I have at home without spending anything
I have a very similar set up but I use black perspex.. can get it cut to any size and it is very light .. just have to be very careful as it says scratch easily. When I saw you photos I thought you must of been doing something similar.

@julzmaioro Thanks for letting me know, Julia. Perspex sounds ideal .. the porcelain tile is quite heavy. But good to know it scratches easily. I think I'll stick to my plan of looking for an old framed picture at the car boot sale or flea market, and just putting a piece of black paper behind the glass. That will be inexpensive, and will probably also be quite light. I thought of just buying a piece of glass, but perhaps the edges wouldn't be safe? So that's why I thought a frame would make it perfectly safe?

@cottiac It's a pleasure Cottia. So nice if we can learn something useful from each other.

@seacreature It is double sided and come with a plastic coating over it and I am still on the original side after about two years and was very inexpensive .. it does make a nice clear reflection.. I have put a link up for one of my shots on your other photo..

@julzmaioro Thanks for the links Julia. You have some awesome photos so it will be a privilege to follow you. And thanks for the info about the perspex. I will look out for some, although with our poor exchange rate in South Africa it might be horrendously expensive, if we even have it available. But it sure sounds like the ideal option, and will be perfectly safe as well as lightweight. It is not something I would ever have thought of if you hadn't mentioned it.
