We decided the best way to honour Dad's life with us would be to celebrate his birthday today and his life, instead of mourning his passing. So I took my mother out for a haircut yesterday, and she put on her brightest, happiest frock this morning. We went out to lunch and toasted him. There is still the empty chair, and empty bed, to face at home, but at least this is a positive way of dealing with it.
@beckyk365 Thanks Becky. She really "came to the party" by getting dressed up brightly this morning, without me saying anything more than we would do something special for Dad's birthday
@narayani Thanks Narayani. So great that you go to your Mum's favourite restaurant on her birthday. My mother is still very tearful, and she is also angry that he left her - but I have heard from many people that anger is a normal part of grieving when one loses a spouse of many years. I don't know that I can do very much other than try and be there for her and let her talk to me about it, or cry when she wants to, and take her out so she gets away from the empty cottage sometimes.
oh, Desi, so sorry about your dad. and so glad you & your mama were able to bring him home. i'm sure it made a huge difference for him. i will be praying for you & your mom. xoxo to you both
