Bokkoms by seacreature

Bokkoms

Today was actually grey and drizzly. This sunshiny weather belongs to tomorrow. This is what my fisherman "friend" was doing when I photographed him tomorrow. After they come back from a fishing trip out to sea, they salt the fish and hang it up to dry. The dried, salted fish is called bokkoms, and lasts a long time without refrigeration.
How fascinating - never knew all that before.

@islambad @777margo @narayani @bf2016 @anniesue thanks all. I haven't travelled to Portugal, Margo, so that is interesting for me to hear. But I guess many little, historic fishing villages in hot climates will have similar customs dating back over the years, to preserve their catch for the lean times.
