YOTD Tuesday

Tug - my "Little Old Man" is the oldest of my pack, and the gentlest and sweetest natured dog you could ever come across. He is quite old now and seldom runs any more on our walks if he can stroll instead. It is only when I start throwing an empty plastic coke bottle around, or better still, a large ball, that he forgets his age and becomes a puppy again.

Every time you mention your dogs, I mean to ask how many you have...and wonder have we seen them all. Please let us know. Pleased that LOM knows how to enjoy himself.

Oh, good boy, Tug.

@s4sayer Margo I have 4 dogs. Actually too many and my life turned upside down with the arrival of the 2 rescues I took in about 3 years ago. Tug and Holly are my old dogs. Quiet, and well behaved as I trained them from puppies. Except when we are on a road with traffic, they don't walk on leads as they always watch where I am and stay close. Then a few years ago my heart was in a different place from my head, and I took two abused dogs, Max & Charlie. They are young and boisterous and had never had any form of training or love in their past, so they arrived with a huge amount of psychological luggage, and it has taken a while for them to learn to trust that there will always be another meal, etc. They still get worried when we are away somewhere and the car is getting packed. I think they might have been taken to a lonely spot and dumped - and their car drove away from them. When I got them the rescue centre had cured the mange and ticks, but they were still thin and scavenged up any crumb I threw on the lawn for the birds, and attacked my older dogs at meal times ...

@s4sayer Max appears in my post on 5th May, If you look back a few weeks this month you will see he is no longer thin. He gets as much food as he can eat. And he is very much loved and contented. But he still needs to walk on a lead because he runs - not to run away, but just to run indiscriminately with no road sense at all. There are roads close to the marina where we walk, and some drivers are not considerate so I worry when he just dashes over the road without a care in the world.

Desi...thank you very much for your comprehensive reply...far and away beyond the question. I appreciate the time you must have spent replying and I take my hat off to your devotion and care of your pack. Our beloved Princesse was a rescue dog that defied all the warnings we were given about her. She'd run away from rescue...3 times. This service said we must have a fenced property etc. I refused point blank and said we'd start by trusting her. She never put a foot wrong. A wonderful, rewarding companion and a gem of a dog for 12 years. Mitzi, a mere 4 year old that we've had since she left the litter is another kettle of fish. Stubborn, opinionated...not unlike R & I...yet she's A1 OK most of the time. Fortunately we have dog friends who exert good influence. Thx again.
