I seldom get shots of Max and Charlie and especially not when we are out walking because firstly they won't look at my camera, and secondly it is quite difficult holding them on leads and getting down to their level (they are yorkies so their level is not far off the ground!) and then shooting them single handedly. But the discipline of learning to sit and chill is one of the things that has saved my sanity with these rescues, and today I took it a step further. After an initial reprimand when they wouldn't sit and chill, I got a shot, and then they got cuddled and told what good boys they are so it was all worth it.
@narayani Thanks Narayani. Yes instilling discipline into two abandoned dogs has been worth the effort. It makes everything, even walking them, just so much more pleasurable for me, and they know their place, and their boundaries, which I believe makes them feel more secure.
Lovely portrait. I have ground level rescue terriers too. Getting portraits when they are outdoors and very distracted can be difficult especially if you are only using one hand on the camera. Mine understand sit and wait but that only stops their legs. The heads are in constant motion outside.
@seacreature Thanks Caryn. You are so right. Max and Charlie do sit now while I photograph a heron or similar, but getting down to them was something different and they battled with the idea at first. Once they sat still, the heads were in constant motion as you have so aptly said, so to try and get a good composition, and in focus, was quite a challenge!
@ludwigsdiana Thanks Diana. This is Max. Charlie's head movements and avoidance of looking at the camera is even more pronounced than Max, so still need to try and grab a shot of him
