It was our Port Owen Yacht Club AGM this morning, followed by a dinner/dance and prize giving tonight. A posh affair to be sure. There was no official photographer, so I took it upon myself to attempt to get photos of awards recipients and yacht club members. Unfortunately I missed focus on a couple of the awards .... but I'm gaining experience and confidence. And I notice that as I gain confidence, people are responding more positively to me than before. So I have realised that getting smiles and cooperation depends a great deal on me pretending to know what I'm doing!
@bf2016 It is a great way to start getting known .... who knows when someone will have an event for which they want a photographer - doing this is kind of like building a portfolio. (I just have to make sure there is some improvement to be seen over time!)
@lynnz Thanks Lynn. I am by nature quite a shy retiring person, and quite humble. But that doesn't inspire others to have confidence in me, so I am working on "putting myself out there" @777margo Thank you Margo.
I'd like to make the transition from "odd person taking photos" to "ooh, real photographer, these photos might appear somewhere, so I'd better put my best look on"
@anniesue LOL. Yes I think you have hit the nail on the head, with that comment. The one person who made me so afraid about 7 years ago trying to take photos at the club when I felt so timid anyway, because she yelled at me in public saying I had no right to take photos without prior permission and must remove them, etc. is now the first one who wants to be "caught" with a smile! I never forgot the humiliation of that dressing down and it has taken me many years to get over it.
@777margo Thank you Margo.
