And the seagull's name was Nelson ....

... Nelson who came from the sea ...

Nothing looked different today. Everything looked the same as it does every other day, so I decided to try shooting a gull today. Could do with a bit more practice to get the perfect shot, but this was good for jaded eyes
Fab focus Desi!

A great shot of Nelson. I often wonder why it is called Nelson here. I used to call them Jonathan ;-)

@ludwigsdiana Aaah yes, I call them Jonathan too because of Jonathan Livingstone Seagull, but top of my mind is the beautiful soundtrack to the movie so I think in terms of Lost on a painted sky, and this sky wasn't painted. People call them Nelson because of Des & Dawn's pop song back in the 70s ...
...And there before his eyes
Was an oil soaked seagull lying there,
Windswept with pain in its eyes.
And the seagull’s name was Nelson,
Nelson who came from the sea, ..."

Are all our seagulls the same? I ask as there are many sub-species, yet not all are represented in any one place. IMHO he might be the nearest equivalent of what in the UK would be a Black Backed Gull.

@s4sayer No the seagulls are definitely not all the same. Here on the West Coast of South Africa we have at least 2 very distinct varieties that I know - and maybe even more sub species that I have yet to learn the nuances. This fellow in the photo is the larger of the two and he is a Kelp Gull. Very much smaller and more delicate both in frame and in colouring we have the pretty little Hartlaub's Gulls. I will need to try and get a shot to show you the distinct difference
