Went in to Cape Town again today to visit Don in hospital. The ward is divided into a number of rooms, each with 2 beds. Nisan has been Don's "roommate" for the past week, but today he was leaving to go to Rehab over the road.
@narayani@ludwigsdiana . Nisan has a long road ahead of him I think.
Thanks for asking. Don is making very slow progress. He had a setback in that his blood pressure dropped dangerously low the other day. He lost a lot of blood during surgery, and is still bleeding a lot into the wound, so they have had to give him a unit of blood in addition to the drips. He is also back on oxygen, and they have had to take away the morphine as I believe that lowers blood pressure, so he is in a lot of pain at the moment. 12 years ago when he had a spinal fusion, he was up and walking down the passage quite confidently within a day or two, but this time it is a week later and it was a half hour effort to get up and shuffle to the toilet just a few meters away. So he is going to have to be discharged to a step down facility at the end of the week as I can't cope with looking after him on my own, 160km away from the hospital if anything goes wrong.
