I have no idea what to make of this man - all I saw was a white face dragging on a smoke, surrounded by darkness in the little shed in which he was sitting. Only back at my computer did I pull out any detail to see the clothes weren't completely black in the blackness behind him, and that his hands were covered in tattoos ...

I am conscious of an article I saw once in which the same man was portrayed in a number of different ways by various professional photographers based on what they thought the background of the person was, but yet in this case nothing was staged or posed - this is the scene as I found it ...
@narayani You have really given me something to think about. I didn't realise the tatts might be home made. If his hands are so covered in tatts then I am quite sure they extend up his arms and over the rest of his body too ... The chains and watch most likely are silver. Other than the face in the darkness, those really caught my eye glinting in the light of the doorway
A very thought provoking capture. Really makes you wonder what all he has gone through in life. I noticed the chains too, such a contrast to the rest of the photo.
