Did the "Granny thing" today and went to watch my stepson's 11 year old twin boys having fun in the dirt on their off road motor bikes so that I can at least try and take an interest and be a small part of how they like to spend their weekends
@koalagardens No, not at all. This was serious stuff on little, but real, off road motor bikes for little people. They were kitted out in all the protective gear you can imagine underneath the outer garments. Knee pads, elbow pads, chest and shoulder pads, kidney belt etc. They learned to take jumps - and here they were learning how to ride in sand all under the supervision and tutelage of an adult Dakar rider
@beckyk365 To be quite honest, I actually found it quite boring, although I would never tell my stepson or the twin boys that! I wouldn't mind if I was doing it myself, but I am not really into watching hours and hours and hours of off road biking.
@seacreature it's tricky this sustaining an interest! My viewing is great-nephews at a playpark - but while they could spend hours there, I can only shout so much encouragement ;-)
@narayani We arrived at the venue at about 10am and only left about 3pm by which time I had been ready to leave for at least the past 3 hours. LOL. I don't know how their Dad manages to do this almost every weekend!
@ludwigsdiana Oh yes they didn't get hurt falling off in all that soft sand. But I could see that they became exhausted quickly. I believe it is quite something controlling the bike in those conditions, and if they learn to master that sand they can master almost anything (or so I was told!)
