Filling in empty spaces with photos from 2nd July. The fishermen had mostly mullet in their nets but showed me one different fish which they called an Elephant Fish. Too valuable to eat, this is sold to the chinese for their aphrodisiacs. That made me feel very sad to learn.
@narayani@ludwigsdiana Thanks. yes bitter taste is the right word. Sad as I feel about something, I also feel that when people are being gracious enough to give me a glimpse into their world, it is not my place to express my feelings about something - especially when it comes to their livelihood. I once took a photo of a drunk woman down at the harbour who had obviously spent the night lying in the sand. I couldn't help but wonder about the children back home while she drank her weeks wages away, but it was not for me to judge so I listened to her story and went on my way....
Great shot. I love all the cormorants hanging out in the background.
Fascinating fish as well. Callorhinchus genus is very interesting, It has an incredibly slow rate of evolution. Its genome has not changed in hundreds of millions of years.
Google says it tastes like cod so maybe the future purchaser will be ecological and use all the parts.
