This photo is the first in an occasional series of Decay and Regeneration shots that I plan to take.
For the last few years, one pub has closed every day in the UK. Greedy pubcos, lack of investment, cheap booze in supermarkets, high duty and vat rates are all probable causes. The consumer then votes with their feet and another place closes, and the building is left to decay. This place has lain unsold and boarded up for 3 years.
How sad. That must take a bite out of the whole community. What a lovely old building too. I hope some other business will move in soon and make a good go of it here. It's like looking at a ghost. :(
I like the sense of distance you've managed to put between us and the building, even though it's just across the street. Makes it seem even more out of reach.
I realise that every 2nd pub in the UK is called the Red Lion, but I can't shake the feeling I've been there :/ Nice shot, the B&W and angle really adds to the feeling of decay.
