When sunday dawned, it was raining hard, and the roads were flooded. I got to the cricket ground at 8-15am to find the covers waterlogged and our artificial wicket waterlogged, so our top of the table clash planned for that morning had to be cancelled.
Then it was all hands on deck once it stopped raining, to try and get our family fun day to go ahead. It took a couple of hours to get the water off the covers and dry out the wickets. but we managed it.
We raised over £1000 for our cricket club during the afternoon, with the BBQ on, bar open and various raffles. I even had a stint behind the BBQ with my special offer, "Buy a burger that I've cooked and get a free day off work or school tomorrow!"
Most importantly we had a lot of fun. We always play several matches of Dads v Lads, and bragging rights are fairly even this year. I managed to hit both my lads for quite a few runs including a number of boundaries and they didn't get me out, but Sam did smash me for 6. I'm quite proud of him for doing so....
With cricket every day from last saturday until this thursday, it has been difficult to look at your photos, but I am planning to have a big catch up tomorrow..
Your special offer re: the hamburgers made me laugh out loud as I got food poisoning at a very expensive 5 star restaurant over the weekend. Nice series, glad the rain stopped for you and yours!
A great community effort to get your day ready for the fun, a good feeling when all came together! Love the boy hitching a ride & your cooking sounds challenging!
