Holiday

A bitty day!!

I went into school with Ben this morning to go to his music lesson, before coming home to get Sam started on his revision ahead of an exam tomorrow, and then 20 miles across country to our dentists for the ritual torture that is a scale and polish. Then took a few shots for my other albums, and home to supervise more revision and working myself. Now uploading before meeting a friend to talk about an interesting business proposition over a pint or two!

So, onto today's shot. The final task today is start booking our annual holiday.

We normally go away at Easter and on cricket tour at the end of May before our family summer holiday. This year we have nothing booked for Easter or May because Sam has his GCSE exams in May and June. So we have decided to have a big three and a half week holiday in July and August.

We are off to Berlin, Bavaria, the Black Forest and Alsace, and I am now in the process of booking apartments, villas, hotels and eurotunnel!!

We have never been to Berlin, so are all very excited at the prospect of visiting one of the world's iconic cities. After this we will be making a very poignant 10 day visit to Bavaria. Rebecca's sister Victoria lived there for 7 years before returning home in 2007. Sadly she died of skin cancer in summer 2008. This is our first trip back to Bavaria since then, and we will be staying in the apartment that Victoria bought as a holiday home for her family.

Finally, a couple of days in the Black Forest en route to a week in Alsace, giving us an opportunity to visit some wonderful vineyards and Strasbourg.

Though it is several months off, we are all excited nonetheless.

Thanks to all for the wonderful reaction to my snow shots yesterday, and putting one of them on the PP.
I'm sure it will be a trip of mixed emotions, but no doubt many happy times were spent there to remember and enjoy. We like travelling in Germany, and you can rely on some hearty food, good beer and interesting wine. We all need something to look forward to!

Wow, this will be a great trip, I am excited for you. On to another subject, I know that PP is totally random, but how are you advised that your photo is on PP?
January 15th, 2013
Congrats on PP Sean! Nice selection of holiday info to keep you busy until the summer. Hope you will be going for a meal at the Auberge de l'Ill in Illhaeusern!
January 15th, 2013
@midumas thanks Michel. Re PP, you don't get advised, normally you get told when one of your friends spots it on the PP, but if you get 4 or 5 favs for a shot you should check the PP to see if you are there. You may need to hit shuffle several times before you've seen all the photos on the PP. hope this helps :)

wow sounds like a great trip - we are going to Berlin in February for a long weekend - so watch for the photos !!!
January 15th, 2013
@stoat I can't wait to see them Debbie. Have a wonderful time.:)
January 15th, 2013
@tishpics Thanks Pat, that is one of the wnderful things about 365. Tips on where to go within minutes of posting:) Is that the very expensive restaurant in Alsace that is run by the wife of the guy who killed himself?
January 15th, 2013
@ccb Thank you Celia, it will, but it is very good to be going back, and it will be a very positive emotional experience for me, and I very much hope for Rebecca too. Definitely some great beer, great food and eclectic wine. It is only a couple of hours to the best Gruner Veltliner in Austria too. A hugely underestimated wine.
January 15th, 2013
Not to my knowledge - that did happen at the Cote d'Or in Saulieu (not near) but perhaps it is an occupational hazard??!
January 15th, 2013
@tishpics Yes I think that is the place. Michelin starred restaurants are rather wasted on my two lads, so probably not on this holiday :(
January 15th, 2013
@seanoneill I would have been very jealous!!
January 15th, 2013
I live in Bavaria so I am a little biased about how beautiful it is here.
Hope you have a wonderful time.

Oh, Sean. . .what a wonderful holiday this looks like for your family even with the poignant part about Victoria. I still remember how incredibly touched I felt by your sharing that journey with us.

January 15th, 2013
I think it will be a bitter sweet trip, but ultimately comforting and good to be back in the place where Victoria once lived. How exciting to be away for 3 1/2 weeks and to visit so many places......
January 15th, 2013
What a program ! That looks great ! Strasbourg is a wonderful town, and Freiburg in the black forest on the german side is a lovely place...dont forget to go to Colmar...if you dont know it is like a town of doll houses ...
January 15th, 2013
Sounds like a wonderful holiday ahead ........ I am sure that while it will bring back memories for Rebecca, it will also bring new memories for all of you :)
January 15th, 2013

January 15th, 2013
Sounds good Neil, all I can remember of Germany from a childhood holiday are the floodlit castles and the Black Forest, but those I recall vividly.

January 18th, 2013
Your trip sounds awesome! We’re trying to make it to Montana for a couple of weeks to spend some time in mountains, but we’ve run into a conflict at work. Still keeping my fingers crossed. I’ve see the word “revisions” used a few times on this site, but still don’t know what it means other than it has something to do with school I assume. Can you enlighten me?
January 19th, 2013
@lisjam1 Thanks Lisa, now Montana is somewhere I would love to go!! Revision, yes it is studying for exams, going over what you have already being taught.
January 19th, 2013
