At the start of our holiday we had 4 amazing days in Berlin.
It is an incredible city. Welcoming, fun and very serious and frank about it's history. We all loved the place, and Ben has decided he wants to study German at university there!
There are so many iconic things to see in Berlin, some well known, some less so. I guess the Brandenburg Gate is up there with the Berlin Wall, The Olympic Stadium and the Reichstag.
The first thing we wanted to see on our visit was the Brandenburg Gate. We can remember the fall of the Berlin Wall in '89 and what the world was like before those incredible days.
I took many shots of the Brandenburg but managed to capture this group hug in front of it, which seemed to say so much about the history of the place.
I can't wait to go back!! Hopefully it will be to visit ben at Uni in 3 or 4 years time.
Brilliant image. We never went to Berlin but looked over the 'wall' - electrified fence, scarified earth - mined, in the Harz Mountains from West Germany to East Germany more than once, back in the 70s and 80s. Who knows the memories this group are re-living. Fav.
O'm so sorry to have missed your Berlin series when you first posted it, but my luck is to see it now! This group hug photo captures a very important feeling for the place, and is preferred over the tourist group photos I mostly saw in my daily bike ride under the gate.
