The Frauenkirche in Munich, taken from the top of the clock tower in the Rathaus (Town Hall) in Marienplatz.
This is one of my favourite views of a church anywhere in the world.
The Frauenkirche is able to dominate the skyline because of laws in Munich which prevent the building of anything more than 99m high, protecting the view of this wonderful church.
Started in 1468 and finished in 20 years, the church i sknown locally as the Onion Domes. one of teh twoers is 12cm shorter than the other at 98.57m and 98.45m.
I was desperate to acquire a pair of beer steins in Munich depicting the towers. My brother in law has a pair, and I know it's wrong, but I do covet them!! Sadly, there were none to be found anywhere!
This is a fabulous shot -great perspective and composition, Sean! The processing makes it look like it could have been captured before WWII started. The castles and churches in Germany are bountiful and beautiful. Wish I didn't live so far away...
Definitely an old postcard! Lovely processing. We've been up the Olympiaturm a couple of times (the athletics stadium tower) and seen the wonderful low-rise cityscape of Munich, with the Frauenkirche outstanding. By the way, wonderful if your son Ben can do his degree in Germany.
Beautiful image!!! I've never been up there -- I've climbed St. Peter's but now I must figure out how to go up to the place where you got this fabulous photo!
