This is a shot of the visiting supporters entrance at Oakwell, the football ground of Barnsley FC.
I went there with my kids a couple of weeks ago to see our team Southampton play. We won 5-1!
It is a proper old football ground. We have built many magnificent new stadiums in the UK in the last 30 years, and with good reason too. However, visiting a traditional old ground is always good.
You will start eulogising about the Dell next! When I was a student in Southampton we lived in a mini-Hall in Hulse Road, close to the ground. if short of funds we could get in free for the last 30 minutes. Rickie reminds me so much of Ron Davies.
@gooner46 I have seats and turf from The Dell in the garden, my seat from the Archers, and my kids have shirtpegs from the changing rooms!! I had teh occasional beer or two in the Hulse Rd Club too!! I agree re Rickie and Ron, it was such a sad day when he died earlier in the summer.
I'm not really sure why I like this, but I do. It has a 50's Life Magazine look. Your comment reminds me of baseball fans in the USA who are so nostalgic about the few remaining old-style ballparks.
@rvwalker Thanks Ross. I have tried to give it an old look without going for sepia. Nostalgia for the sights and smells and sounds of childhood always do it for me. Just like this shot!
Great angle to see the tower and it's light lines contrasting with the heavier brick! Wish we could send you some of the heat from here!! It's like a sauna out there -- the wind helps, but ugh!
A real nostalgic feel, Sean. Love it! I can see you and Chris becoming competitive about this, although he is a hopeless case being an Arsenal fan! Just show me a pic of the City Ground and I may join in!
