Boxing Day Hunt ~ 3 by seanoneill

Boxing Day Hunt ~ 3

A close up of a very well turned out young lady from the Quorn Hunt yesterday.

For those not from these shores, the UK banned fox hunting many years ago, so this is a traditional rural pastime that is kept alive, without any foxes being harmed.

I've often thought that Horse Racing would be interesting if the jockeys had a couple of glasses of red wine at the start!!

Great candid portrait, nice timely moment captured :)

Wonderful shot! Love the fancy clothes!

what a dramatic look with the black netting over her face, Can't say I agree with hunting but she does look very smart - hope you had a lovely Christmas Sean!
December 27th, 2013
Great shot! What's the facial netting for?
December 27th, 2013
Fabulous! I bet she was riding side-saddle! Jolly good show, I say!
December 27th, 2013
@hjv to protect from mud splatters!
December 27th, 2013
She looks the part completely which is all part of it!!
December 27th, 2013
Wonderful candid........I love this shot!

I love this! We watched a lot of period movies and I love that some traditions are still alive and well. I love the costume so regal, gorgeous b/w.
December 27th, 2013
@tishpics Thanks for the explanation. But, being an ignorant cloggy, I wonder how that works. Is it to break up large splatters into smaller, less dangerous ones or decrease the impact in the eyes?
December 27th, 2013
Oh wow - I love the formality :)
December 27th, 2013
Must have our glass of wine for breakfast. Hope there are no police out there with breathalyzers!
December 27th, 2013
Great shot, crisp and clear.
December 27th, 2013
Another lovely shot, I love this traditional netting over the face.
December 28th, 2013
Delightful scene. The hat, veil, wine, and white gloves aren't something we see every day.
December 28th, 2013
Fabulous shot. So what is a quorn hunt? Is a quorn an animal?
December 28th, 2013
Over the moon awesome! Instant FAV! Love the crisp of the b&w, the focus, and the formality. Looks like a high fashion magazine shot!
December 28th, 2013
Fantastic candid portrait!
December 28th, 2013
so dramatic - wonderful photo of tradition at it's wackiest.
December 28th, 2013
Great portrait Sean. I had to google Quorn Hunt and decided to have a look at their small ads, different world, hire a nanny to go hunting!!! Had a laugh to myself
December 28th, 2013
@ingrid2101 yes they are all frightfully posh Ingrid.
December 28th, 2013
@kjarn Quorn is the small village that gives the hunt it's name Kathy.
December 28th, 2013
So if fox hunting is banned, what are they hunting in Quorn?
December 28th, 2013
@kjarn tradition!! There are still a couple of hundred hunts that ride out for enjoyment without hunting foxes.
December 28th, 2013
Now I get it, thanks Sean.
December 28th, 2013
Stunning shot!
December 28th, 2013
Love the look of elegance here - especially since she's clearly sitting on a horse. It's so cool that you still have the 'hunts' without hurting the foxes. I love riding and have always thought that riding in something like this would be a thrill.
December 28th, 2013
oh wow! fabulously classy shot! beautifully done!
December 28th, 2013
Elegant capture. Now I want to say "swell" repeatedly! ;-)
December 29th, 2013
ThatĀ“s so amazing to me, all fancy looking and still redy to hunt, amazing!
December 29th, 2013
Such a classy shot and so British looking to me.

A great capture.

Fab photo Sean. (you don't really think they don't hunt foxes do you?)
January 3rd, 2014
@jantan Well I for one would be very disappointed to think that these bastions of British virtue would be breaking the law as gratuitously as this. They would be risking so much. Surely? Do you know something that I don't ;-)
January 3rd, 2014
Only that they rampage over our land several times a year following foxes. Their excuse is always that the hounds are meant to be following a human-laid scent but if they get onto one from a real fox unfortunately they can't really do anything about that can they? They are above the law. Rant over sorry.

@jantan No apology necessary Jan. You know it's funny, I posted all these shots and a few have voiced their opinion about hunting, yet none have asked for mine ( I don't include you, your vested interest is way ahead of my opinion on this). I think you have an absolute right to be upset with them tramping over your land. Riding roughshod isn't it? I'm with you, but I also think that the powers that be in this country shouldn't sanitise everything out of the traditions that make us who we are. If they were destroying my land I would be wound off the scale! I apologise to you if my tongue in cheek remark has offended, it wasn't my intention.
January 3rd, 2014
No, not at all Sean. I have several friends who hunt. I think we are all entitled to our opinions and I am by no means anti-hunting, just anti-trespassing and anti-hunting foxes with dogs (while trying to pretend that that isn't what you are doing really,) I am in no way offended, and know from what I have learned about you on here that you are not the offensive type. Far too nice for that!

@jantan thanks Jan, I think we are on the same page.
