A very thoughtful shot & title.
I used to drink tea all the time until I had an Italian study partner who refused to make it. Been a coffee drinker ever since. ;)
I read a booket today, Finding the magic of light, written by a Danish photographer illustrated with beautiful light painting photos. He had some excellent advice on everyday drills for photographers. When I read I was thinking I had to share with you.
See the world as your self:
1. Keep your eyes open.
2. Notice every time you see something pretty.
When you do, stop for a short second and analyze how the light influences how pretty it is. Would different light make it look different and/or put less emphasis on what you find pretty or aesthetic? What exactly is it that makes it pretty?
You will start seeing a pattern in what it is that makes things look great or aesthetic. You don't have to be able to define it or put words on it, just see it.
3. Notice something that should look pretty but really doesn't. What is missing in terms of reflections and light?
See the world as a camera:
4. Take a chance and shoot something.
Notice every time something looks pretty to the camera: Remember how it looked to the eye.
The camera has higher contrast, less dynamic range than the eye, and a tunnel vision of just one angle from one fixed viewpoint, rather than your eyes and mind that sense a whole space in all dimensions and can rather quickly change viewpoint.
You have two eyes that see 3D in ultra wide angle. The camera sees tunnel vision in 2D.
I like the steam even if strictly speaking it isn't steam but water vapour! Such a pedant I am! It's good to try something different I think! I'm talking about styles of photography, not of tea! I can no longer cope with a lot of tea but I do like a cup of Assam!
