Nottingham ~ 9 by seanoneill

Nottingham ~ 9

Thank you to everyone who expressed their sympathies following my post about Rebecca's Uncle Bill yesterday. Rebecca and her parents both view my project regularly and are touched by the sentiments we have received.

A busy day today back in the office catching up with all that I ignored last week!!

I posted a few shots of this building from Nottingham Lace market last week. Here is a more expansive view.

Though it gives up some great photo opportunities, it is such a shame that a building like this in the centre of a major city has lain empty and in disrepair for many years.

I should also add a happy St George's Day to all who are proud to be English, like I am.

This is tremendously good. I'm trying to find new adjectives for praise.

Quite pleasing this is. Fav!

Hey! A project for you Sean - renovate, open as a bar selling your beers! People go to the Lace Market to eat and drink these days, don't they? Not like my mum who went their to sew garments! Trouble is, renovated it wouldn't make such a good subject for a photograph as this is.

@yrhenwr I wish my pockets were deep enough David! Strange thing is there are no for sale signs!!

Fantastic capture :)

Love the processing on this Sean. How do you get that effect? I seem to recall that you use Silver Efex.....do you like this package? Is it worth investing in? Only good for Black and white tho, is that correct?
April 23rd, 2014
@stuckinoz Hi Janelle, yes, I use SFX Pro, and it is worth the investment because you get a bunch of other Photoshop plug ins with it including Colour Efex Pro, HDR Efex pro, Analog Efex Pro. To get this finish, along with the majority of my architectural shots I use the Full contrast and structure preset, then maybe use some control points if the contrast goes too extreme. Then I sometimes add a strong contrast layer in curves back in PS. Easy peasy.

Fabulous b&w tones, Sean...as always.
April 23rd, 2014
@seanoneill I looked at some Youtube clips of SFX Pro. It looks easy to use. Did you find it hard to learn? Its not as complicated as PS is it?
April 23rd, 2014
@stuckinoz nowhere near as complicated. Very intuitive. Someone as clever as you would eat it for breakfast whilst multi tasking a myriad of other things :-) Basically if I can do it anyone can!!
April 23rd, 2014
@seanoneill Good to hear.... Being a woman means I rock the multi-tasking thing :)
April 23rd, 2014
Great contrasts in this shot Sean...and the mid-tones are great too...super shot.
April 23rd, 2014
Do you know Sean if SFX pro works with all editions of ps? I have cs2..... Fabulous shot, love the contrast. Me and benji went for walk down canal into town but I forgot my memory card.... These images though are inspiring me to take us into town one day soon with my camera.

@newbank I am pretty sure it does, but you should be able to live chat with a Google/Nik customer services rep before buying. Nottingham offers so many opportunities, as do Leicester and Derby for that matter. I'm thrilled that shots like this inspire you, thank you.

A haunted feeling to this old building.

Wonderful contrast in this
April 23rd, 2014
Great B&W image - love the textures!!
April 23rd, 2014
Great urban shot Sean. Are you sure there's no Irish lurking in your background. The O'Neills were the kings of Ulster and responsible FOT the red hand on the Ulster flag!!
April 23rd, 2014
@ceilidh I can't remember where I come from Margaret, it was dark when I left!
April 23rd, 2014
@ceilidh .....but my grandad told me that Hugh O'Neill was my great grandad 28 times removed. I'm about as English as you can get and hugely proud of it, though very proud of my Irish roots.

Fabulous building shot. A shame there are so many buildings like this all over the country.
April 23rd, 2014
I agree. I know some owners of old central buildings in Oslo let the buildings fall apart rather than renovate under the restrictions of historical buildings. When it's beyond repairs it's demolished and something new and fancy pops up.

Excellent photo. The street sign matching the state of the building is a great detail. Fav

I really like the high contrast in this, gives it almost a Dickensian feel to it.
April 23rd, 2014
@seanoneill Your reply made me smile. My daughters and grandkids are English to the core (Essex!!!) but still enjoy visiting Ireland
April 23rd, 2014
What a great building! Your B&W take really captures so many details!
