Clare College Doorway by seanoneill

Clare College Doorway

Rebecca, Ben and I had a lovely day out in Cambridge yesterday. I hadn't been since the 1980s!!

I met up with @jennywren and @dulciknit for a very enjoyable photo amble around a few of the colleges and enjoyed spending time with my camera again.

We all enjoyed a rather splendid Afternoon Tea at Harriets Tea Rooms at the end of our wanderings.

I couldn't believe my luck when I saw this typical Cambridge College doorway with a lovely old bike outside.

More shots to follow if I get time, but I wanted to thank Jenny and Alison for a lovely few hours.
Are the bikes oversized or are the doorways tiny? Well spotted and composed. Sounds like a lovely afternoon.

Sounds like a splendid afternoon, love your composition here and the use of B & W.

@amandal 'Twas a doorway for hobbits. I guess when the college was built we were a shorter race, hence where the knob and lock are!!

Dang those growth hormones they give the cows. I didn't drink enough milk apparently, though.

Fabulous shot Sean....all those solid looking stone flags......such history there......wonder how many famous feet have walked those?
Love the b/ w ...perfect for this shot.....so many lovely features, even the bike is a suitable type! Fav!

Something so Cambridge about bikes like that. Love the shape of the wheels against all those rectangles.

Excellent shot Sean, love the comp, textures & B&W :)

I was sure this was going to be one of Judith Greenwood's! Lovely tone, texture and contrast of shapes Sean. That Alison gets around, @paulaw and myself are meeting up with her Monday for some lavender fields photography!

Great one Sean. Great comp, the low PoV works very well

Lovely bike shot

If that door is just the right height for me then the bike is definitely too big! Nice find and very well shot. Sounds like we might be seeing more shots from you, Sean, which is very good news.

Ouch! I see lots of people hitting their head! Love the bike is there to give a sense of size as well as looking good :)

I have only just seen this shot on my thread as I was backtracking through a huge upload from a couple of people, also it didn't appear on my notifications which was strange. So apologies. Thank you for your thanks to us, and of course the afternoon tea treat. Love this typical Cambridge look shot. The old walls and stone flags give such a feel of history, so good in b/w.

@jennywren it's the shot I mentioned late on that I thought I was pleased with. One or two more to come. No apology necessary.

Love how the angle emphasises the disparate proportions of the bike and the door. Classic composition and great in b&w, of course. I like the way the light's defining the panelling on the doors.
I've noticed in NT and cathedral wanderings that these low doors often open onto descending flights of steps/stairs. Wonder if that might be the case here?
Thank you to you too, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day and it was very kind of you to treat us to tea, much appreciated.
