Today's word is OLD. My husband joked that I could take his picture but I decided instead to take a photo of one of our Jasper rocks in our garden. The name 'Jasper' means 'spotted or speckled stone' and these stones were often used as gemstones in the ancient world. On Minoan Crete, jasper was carved to produce seals circa 1800 BC, as evidenced by archaeological recoveries at the palace of Knossos. It can be highly polished and can be used for vases, seals and snuff boxes.
We have seven very large Jasper stones in our garden - each one is unique in colouring and texture and several have large quartz areas in them - the white in this picture is quartz.
