Thanks for all the lovely comments and favs! @kwiksilver Yes these are Trumpeter Swans who were hunted almost to extinction for their skins and feathers but thanks to a ban on hunting, reintroduction programs and habitat conservation efforts the birds have made a successful comeback. Tagging the birds helps with those efforts. They do make a wonderful trumpet sound as opposed to the yellow-billed mute swans who co-habitate the waters here.
