@irisn we have different patron saints for the constituent countries of the United Kingdom - 1st March is St David's Day for Wales, 17th March is St Patrick's Day for Ireland, 23rd April is St George's Day for England and 27th November is St Andrew's Day for Scotland - all saints with different stories and provenance. St David is a homegrown saint and there's a lot of history around St David's (City - very tiny) in Wales, with a cathedral. The saints / countries also have symbols - St David is a daffodil or leek.
