And now for something completely different

For blue for the Rainbow Challenge I could have used the blueberry shot from earlier this week, but I really couldn't think of any ways of making that more interesting, even if they were not almost indigo - and I couldn't find anything to copy. The meme that is out there is blue strawberries in the process of being changed as a comment on GMO, but I have a couple of other challenges to complete this week.

This is a twofer. For my Get Pushed challenge @fbailey challenged me to try scanography. And because I needed inspiration for this, I'm also creating an Album Cover for that challenge, where I drew:

Band/Artist: Buffie McFadyen (Canadian politician)
(I cheated on this one, the first article I got was "List of Canadian Number 1s from 2009" so I tried again)
Quote: Always and never are two words you should always remember never to use (Wendell Johnson)

I didn't love this challenge, to put it mildly. The background is one scan, using blue plastic straws and the fish that come filled with soy sauce with sushi, a comment on single use plastic. The words are separate scans as the Scrabble letters were too big against the background. And there are only two Fs in a Scrabble set, making Buffie McFadyen impossible to create. It would have been easier if Windows 10 would let the printer/scanner update go through so I had the right drivers and didn't have to keep restarting everything.

Three good things:
1. My daughter is a lot better, no extra meds to keep her going today
2. All the buttons on my daughter's new shirt (she made it but I get to do the hand-sewing) and I've added stiffer interfacing to the collar of a velour top I made, plus stabilised the hem;
3. I started sewing my latest shirt, although I suspect I'm going to have to move the bust darts.

Thank you for looking and your wonderful comments and faves. Thank you for getting yesterday's pear to the PP. You're all wonderful. I prefer to look at your pictures rather than thank you individually below.

Is this what they call found art? I think it’s good for the blue challenge and all your others as well. Accomplished quite a lot here.

You have such patience. I can only get motivated to go to so much trouble if it’s a project I’m really excited about but you seem to turn out wonderful complex images everyday.

@gardencat the zipped bananas didn't take long at all - set it up, took 5 or 6 shots in different positions until I get one I liked, take through GIMP to tidy it up, done. The pear was fiddlier, but I knew what I wanted to achieve, and I've been stuck in all week, with quite a sick daughter who couldn't be left, so it was a good opportunity to experiment with some photoshopping for the fruit.

wow! I'm worn out reading it all :)

I like the mix of order and chaos that the straws have created.

Great quote by W. Johnson!
(About the "groats", they were called 'wheat berries' on the package. I would've thought of them as whole wheat grains myself, but happy that they also fell under "groats" because I needed something for G!

Sorry to hear you didn't have fun with the challenge, but you did accomplish quite a lot with this pic!

I've been without broadband since Monday. Hope after new router and engineer's visit today it might just be up and running tomorrow. If it is I hope to complete your challenge but it may be a little late this week.

An fascinating image and entry. I happen to like it a lot. As for technology, it has mean and vicious sense of humor or it does for me.

Nice image!

I can understand why you're not as happy with this as you want to be. But you at least tried it and if you were to try again, you now know what you'd do differently if you could. Good try!

@fbailey sorry you have had no broadband. I found this wasn't easy to control or set up - and frustrating because the scanner stopped communicating with the laptop every second attempt, so I had to reset it all ....So if I had kept on going with it, I might have got something I liked better, but I'd already spent ages on producing something I'm not that happy with. I like the way the clear plastic fish turned this golden hue, but only if they were next to the glass scanner bed ... I deliberately blurred the results with an overlay, because my scanner has a very short focal length and the things next to the screen were very crisp and the stuff behind very blurred.

Beautiful image.

wonderfully conceived for your album cover. Your tale of the process to get to the final result resonates so well - I am sure with many of us. But it also makes us feel better - we are not alone in our struggles. Sometimes we have an idea that we know should work really well but everything gets in the way. Well done for persevering.

@shutterbug49 scanography is creating pictures and images using a scanner - the course I found had some amazing creations, using objects on the scanner.

Cool try. We are partners next week. How about a photo with shows movement, how that is up to you
