It was our office Christmas meal today, and so I abandoned both the car and bike in favour of the train. This is our local station, with level crossing, just a couple of miles from home. The return train got me safely home after a rather average Christmas meal (why do restaurants seem to have a poorer standard of cooking, for twice the price, just before Christmas?) but with excellent company sharing a few beers afterwards. A few years ago I would have happily cycled home, but these days I am getting too old and sensible to do that on a cold winter’s night.
