The village of Cormayeur, in the Italian Alps, our venue for a week of skiing. Nine of us travelled from the UK, leaving home at 3.45am for our flight from Birmingham. We arrived at lunchtime, but no skiing on day one, because our lift passes were not yet valid. The village is actually 500m below the “resort”, from where the ski lifts carry skiers to the top of the pistes. The village and resort are linked by a cable car gondola, and we were issued with a temporary pass so that we could ascend to the resort on the first day to be fitted with our hired skis and boots, allowing a full days skiing on the following day.
