This mossy ferny surface is not in the middle of a woody glade. It is the brickwork of an inner city Victorian house suffering from years of damp from a leaking gutter. Since houses of this era do not have cavity walls, the damp has penetrated the wall, resulting from crumpling plaster and peeling wallpaper. One of several defects that the landlord must remedy.
