We are starting to notice the lengthening days at last, with morning and some evening dog walks on work days taking place in the grey light of dawn or dusk. Yesterday morning was cloudless and we walked up Croft Hill for a photo of the sunrise. It was crisp and frosty, but still a bit too early for the sun to be getting up. After a clear night the full moon was setting behind the trees on the west side of the Hill, providing an alternative photo opportunity, although with morning light still to reach the western sky I needed a long shutter speed. I did not have a tripod with me, but Croft Hill is fully equipped with a concrete trig point that provided a solid and level base for the camera, and after bit of trial and error I managed this shot, complete with a ghostly pooch that sneaked into the frame. I’ll probably avoid future morning walks on the Hill. A couple of other dog walkers had the same idea, and my German Shepherd has an unfortunate habit of running up to other dogs while in full bark mode, especially if taken by surprise, although she hides behind my legs if the other dog barks back.
