First light (briefly) by shepherdman

First light (briefly)

The first light of day is distinctly weather dependant at the moment. On some days I set off with the dogs under a fluorescent pale sky, definitely what I would call daylight, with what passes for a dawn chorus at this time of the year. Those are the days when I forget my camera. Other days are still pretty dark by the time we get home. This morning started well, with a bright eastern horizon illuminating the fields, but as we walked a veil of cloud travelled from the North West and by the time we headed home the bright eastern strip of sky had been obscured, and the day was darker than when we set off. I’m sure that the birds that had been giving sleepy tweets half an hour earlier had gone back to bed. I couldn’t blame them – there was a cold wind.
This is incredibly dramatic and a very impressive shot! The indigo colour of that front of dark clouds is beautiful. The sunrise looks as though it is splitting the sky in two.
