The farming year is on the turn, with most fields harvested, although still plenty of standing wheat and some rape. Many of the fields of stubble have been partially disked – just turning the top of the soil in isolated strips up and down the field, plus a strip around the perimeter. I haven’t a clue why this is done, and I keep forgetting to ask my farming friend. The field edges have been mown today, the metre high wild grasses being reduced to just a few inches in a wide strip around the fields. This has opened up two or three dog walking routes (those away from public footpaths) that have been impassable because of the vegetation.
I haven't seen this here. They seem to be ploughing in very neat strips although I am not sure why ploughing is taking precedence over harvesting the wheat which is still standing in some fields. Great shot, like the b&w
