I love the open moorland that you often find at the top of cliffs in Cornwall. I’ve seen similar landscapes when I’ve been walking on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset. With the wind favouring low ground cover wild plants, and the warm climate and bright light from an open sky encouraging a long flowering season, the visual effect is of a wildflower meadow at the height of spring, although this was taken in mid-September. A long winding and very narrow road led to this part of the coast – driving along these Cornish Lanes entails carefully noting the “passing places” as you pass them, and then, when you meet an oncoming vehicle, pausing briefly to see who will blink first, and reverse back to the nearest passing place. The drive is worth it though, leading to a secluded bay, with walks across the cliffs, cottages hidden in small valleys, and, perhaps most importantly, a small café serving cream teas in a tiny sheltered garden. @shepherdmanswife reward for climbing the steep cliff path and exploring the wild moorland above the sea.
