This industrial complex, dominated with what I think is an oil refinery, is on the estuary of Southampton Water, on the edge of the Solent. It is a very busy stretch of water, with tankers and cargo ships coming and going from Southampton, and sailing dinghies, tiny in comparison, sailing in the Solent off of the Isle of Wight. On the whole, shipping rules and modern navigation and communication aids seem to keep them apart. The atmospheric gloomy sky above the industrial complex, seen from our stroll along the coast, was an incoming squall moving inland quite slowly – we were back at the car, with granddaughters bikes safely packed away, before the rain arrived onshore.
