For many of us at this time of the year, on a good day you are going to be photographing sunsets. Or maybe the occasional sunrise. This particular sunset followed a visit to the Elephant and Castle pub in Thurlaston, a couple of miles away, when a group of us went there for lunch. I know that you wouldn’t normally expect to witness a sunset after a pub lunch, but in this case it was the annual beer and pie festival, with a choice of about a dozen real ales, and half a dozen varieties of homemade pies, all properly encased in short crust pastry (none of the exploding puff pastry nonsense) and served with chips and mushy peas. Two of us had walked across the fields with one of the dogs, Tia, and so were able to sample a half pint of each of the beers on offer (apart from the local brews, which we can sample at any time), plus an extra half or two of a favourite ale. The sun was low in the sky when, guided home by Tia, we wandered contently back across the fields in the late afternoon sunshine.
Makes for a most beautiful scene.
